Dear Colleagues, I reach out to you this summer wishing you the best, but also realizing we are in a time of substantial change in policy and funding in the academic and health care sectors. It is at a time like this that your membership in the National Academies of Practice can strongly support your personal and professional development. NAP’s core values of Collaboration, Patient-Centeredness, Inclusivity and Interconnectedness will guide our work together! In NAP, these aren’t just words but rather they serve as key tenets that drive our actions. Additionally, when we engage and collaborate together, we can magnify our individual expertise and voices to have a greater impact on health care systems, our communities and the persons in our care. As you witnessed at the NAP Forum and through the Town Halls, we are doing amazing work on our committees and task forces. Thank you to all who have engaged in this important work! I would like to remind you of some key resources that have been developed over the past several years:
There are also some key initiatives moving forward in the upcoming year! Through the leadership of Dr. Joseph Zorek, Co-Editor in Chief of the Journal of Interprofessional Education and Practice, the journal is engaging with NAP members more than ever and implementing updated workflows to optimize efficiency and rigor. The NAP society pages are also transitioning from a newsletter format to feature scholarly work that is being done within the organization. Collaboration across academies and committees is also happening more than ever with the implementation of a new member rubric, mentorship program, advocacy initiatives and cross-academy webinars. The Interprofessional Collaboration Committee’s projects around the Healthy People 2030 focus areas are coming to fruition and making an impact. Work is moving forward on additional partnerships, position statements, leadership development and student engagement. Special thanks to our Executive Committee, Academy leaders, the AMR team, and all members of the committees/work groups for their tireless work on behalf of the organization. The new Communications and Marketing Task Force, led by Co-Chairs Felicia Chew and Kris Hall, has begun its work to look at NAP’s brand and how we can best serve internal and external stakeholders with the goals of making recommendations by the end of the year. I encourage you to consider submitting a proposal to present and attend the 2026 NAP Forum in Indianapolis next March. As always, the Forum Planning team is pulling together another outstanding celebration of NAP with the theme: “Crossroads of Innovation: Shaping the Future of Practice and Education”. NAP is also proud to be an engaged member of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education (IHPE). I encourage you watch the June 3rd "The State of the Science Address" by Marcia McNutt, President of the National Academy of Sciences, where she eloquently presents the issues at stake using a reasoned evidence-based approach. In closing, on behalf of NAP, I offer support to you during this time of unprecedented change and uncertainty. I feel that by living our shared values and collaborating together we can find the best path forward. Sincerely, |
