Distinguished Fellows shall require nomination by colleague; application, review and recommendation by the Academy of their profession; and a majority vote of the members of the NAP Council. Nominees shall be US citizens who have an exemplary career of ten years or more, and are committed to interprofessional practice and accessible, affordable healthcare for all. Applicants are judged by distinguished peers to have made significant and enduring contributions in their profession. Election as a Distinguished Fellow shall be for life, upon annual payment of membership dues.
Distinguished Practitioner and Fellow, FNAP
Individuals who have spent a significant portion (10 years or more) of their professional career in the practice and direct delivery of health care services. They are judged by distinguished peers to have made enduring contributions in their profession.
Distinguished Scholar and Fellow, FNAP
Individuals with academic achievements such as significant and enduring educational and/or research contribution to practice. They are judged by distinguished peers to have made significant and enduring contributions in their profession.
Distinguished Public Policy Fellow, FNAP
Individuals who have made a significant and enduring public policy contribution to healthcare practice. They are judged by distinguished peers to have made significant contributions to interprofessional healthcare.
Distinguished Fellow Annual Dues $250, in addition to Academy Dues
Nominate a Colleague for NAP Distinguished Fellowship
To nominate a distinguished professional to one of the 14 Academies, you must be an active NAP member. Nominees should be individuals who are committed to 1) interprofessional practice and 2) accessible, affordable healthcare for all.
Use the link at the top of the page to register your nomination and enter the information about your nominee. You will need to know the following information about your nominee:
- Full Name
- Organization or Practice Name, if applicable
- The appropriate Academy to which they should apply
- Email Address
- Phone Number
- Know the appropriate category for membership of Scholar, Practitioner, or Public Policy
After completing the nomination process you will receive a confirmation email. Your nominee will also be contacted, inviting them to pay the $100 application fee and complete their application for Distinguished Fellowship.
If you have nominated a New Fellow, they will be contacted by NAP headquarters to invite them to complete their application for Distinguished Fellowship and pay the $100 application fee.
We encourage you to reach out to your nominee and assist them with the nomination process. Please encourage them to prepare their application for review and ensure they provide information regarding their interprofessional contributions.
As a courtesy, please notify the leadership of the Academy, if you nominated someone to a different Academy, that is not your own.
Unless the nominee opts-out, in the circumstance that the applicant does not meet the qualifications for Fellow, the applicant will be considered for Professional Membership.
Please note: if you are nominating a potential Distinguished Fellow to the Nursing Academy, their application will be processed with the final group of applicants because the Nursing Academy is near the 250 Distinguished Fellow limit per Academy.
Apply to Become a Distinguished Fellow
In order to apply for membership in NAP, you must first have an online account. You may already have an online account if you have attended a NAP event in the past year, or you have previously applied for membership. If you do not have a user account, please go to New Visitor Registration, create an account, and then proceed to the appropriate application fee payment.
To submit an application to become a NAP Distinguished Fellow, you must first be nominated. You will be asked to pay the $100 application fee. Upon payment, you will be sent the link to the online application via email. Please have the following three documents prepared before beginning your application:
- A statement of interest in NAP, describing how you feel membership in NAP may help advance your clinical practice effectiveness and/or professional goals, as well as how you feel you can contribute to NAP and its mission.
- A 250 word professional biography
- Your CV
Unless you opt-out, in the circumstance that you are not extended Fellow status, your application will be considered for Professional Membership.
Please note: if you are applying to become a Distinguished Fellow to the Nursing Academy, your application will be processed with the final group of applicants because the Nursing Academy is near the 250 Distinguished Fellow limit per Academy.
