Criteria for membership
The membership and affiliate membership of the NAP shall consist of Distinguished Practitioners, Distinguished Scholars, and Distinguished Public Policy Fellows. Any NAP member can nominate someone for membership, or you may self-nominate. Below are a list of memberships types and requirements for each type of membership.
All potential members:
- Must be a citizen of the United States except for affiliate members.
- May be nominated by ANY NAP member or self-nomination.
- Must be accepted by the Academy of their profession.
- Must be approved by a majority vote of the Council.
In addition:
Distinguished Practitioners:
- Shall have had an exemplary career of ten years or more in the direct provision of health care services.
- Shall have made significant and enduring contributions to the advancement of professional practice.
Distinguished Scholars:
- Shall have made a significant and enduring educational and/or research contribution to practice.
Distinguished Public Policy Fellows:
- Shall have made a significant and enduring public policy contribution related to health care.
Honorary Fellows:
- Shall have made a significant and enduring non-professional contribution to practice.
Associate Membership:
- May be practitioners, scholars, or public policy fellows.
- Shall have engaged in their respective areas of work for less than ten years.
Affiliate Membership:
- Non United States citizens.
- May be practitioners, scholars, or public policy fellows.
- Shall have engaged in their respective areas of work for ten years.
