At the 2009 Fall Council Meeting, NAP Council Members voted to change the NAP procedures for election to membership. There is still confusion about the new process and what was voted on at this meeting.

See the procedures below for more information on how the new system is being implemented:
As the Membership Chair (or team) for your Academy, you are responsible for working with the NAP Membership Liaison (Sharise Beavers) to meet an annual goal for membership recruitment. The NAP will provide support for your efforts, but it is YOUR responsibility to find potential candidates, push membership forward and drive the review process in a timely manner.
Below you will find a link to the current membership report on the specific membership numbers for each Academy.
How to read the report:
1st column - Total Potential Dues paying members:
This first column includes the number of members who have been elected to your Academy, and if they choose to pay dues, will count against your total cap of 150 members. Honorary and Emeritus members are not included in this column because they do not count against your cap of 150 members.
2nd column - Paid members:
These are the only members currently counting against your cap of 150 members.
3rd column - Not Paid members:
These individuals will count against your cap of 150 members only if they choose to pay their dues.

To streamline the administrative burden associated with the recruitment of new members, the NAP Central Office has placed the entire nomination and application system online. This allows us to capture all of the information in one convenient place for membership Chairs and Committees to review and eliminates the problem of incomplete applications.

NAP has created an online tool for each step in your customized membership process. If you do not feel comfortable using these tools, consider forming a Membership Committee for your Academy, allowing you to involve people that have these particular skills. Members of this committee can also help with review, communications with nominees and members who need to renew, etc.
There are 7 basic steps to recruiting members for your Academy:
Identify potential members. Remember they are to be distinguished in your field, with an interest in promoting interdisciplinary activities. Ideas to find recruits:
Ask the NAP Central Office staff to send an e-mail to your members asking for nominations.
Consider organizations or associations with distinguished members that would be appropriate for recruiting and either get contact information for them or ask the NAP Central Office to research their contact information on your behalf.
Consider recruiting at meetings for other organizations or associations.
When you have identified these individuals, please nominate them by clicking here. By nominating these individuals yourself, you are giving approval for NAP to send invitation letters to these individuals on your behalf.
NAP also receives nominations for your Academy. NAP also receives nominations from other NAP members either online or through correspondence directly to NAP. NAP will compile this information and forward these individuals to the Membership Chairs to review. You may then respond with who you would like to invite and we will send invitation letters on your behalf.
Invite your nominees. NAP has created standard electronic invitation letters for each Academy based on information we received in your planning interview with NAP. We can send these letters on your behalf, or we can teach you how to use these online tools for yourself.IF YOU SEND THE INVITATION LETTERS YOURSELF, you MUST cc the NAP Membership office at napmembers@yahoo.com on your invitations so we can track your nominee for you. To review your invitation letters and the other tools we use on your behalf, click here and then click on your Academy name.
Follow up with your nominees. NAP has also created standard electronic follow-up letters for each Academy based on information we received in your planning interview with NAP. We can send these letters on your behalf, or we can teach you how to use these online tools for yourself. IF YOU SEND THE INVITATION LETTERS YOURSELF, you MUST cc the NAP Membership office at napmembers@yahoo.com on your invitations so we can track your nominee for you. To review your invitation letters and the other tools we use on your behalf, click here and then click on your Academy name.
Once a member of NAP nominates a candidate for membership, you and the other members of your Academy who are involved in the review process receive an automatic email notification. (We have reviewed with each Academy who should receive these notifications and everyone you requested is currently on the distribution list.) These emails contain all of the information submitted by the nominator, including a letter of recommendation for the nominee. You can save all these email notifications in one place and review using whatever Academy-level review process your Academy participates in. To review the nomination form for your Academy so you can provide input for its contents, click here, then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on your Academy name.
Once a candidate has applied online for your Academy, you will receive an automatic email with all of the information that was submitted, including their CV. When a member of NAP nominates a candidate for membership, you and the other members of your Academy who are involved in the review process receive an automatic email notification. These emails contain their application and a link to all the documents that they have attached to their application (CV, supporting documents, etc.). You can save all these emails in one place and review using whatever Academy-level review process your Academy participates in. To review the application form for your Academy so you can provide input for its contents, click here, then click on your Academy name.
Once you have received all materials for your candidates, you may use whatever Academy review process you choose, but must reply to NAP by the Council Vote Dates. Academies may use whatever review process they prefer to approve or deny nominees at the Academy level. However, if you require any materials outside of what NAP is collecting for you in the online system, you must either obtain that information on your own, or ask the NAP Membership Department to add these questions to your Academy's application or nomination form. If we have all of the materials that the NAP Council voted as the requirements for applying for NAP membership and you have not replied with Academy input into the candidates by the NAP Council Vote dates, the NAP Council will process your candidates under the assumption your Academy has approved them. To discuss your membership candidates with the NAP Membership Department, email Sharise at napcommunications@yahoo.com.
